Oh What a Firm
Another song from the 1967 Midwinter show - not mine and I can't recall who
did write it but it suggests a chippy with met friends or a meteorologist
with chippy inclinations. I guess at Colin Wornham or Dave Hill. In fact
the mention of the "Meadows" generator implies experience of the "old base"
('62 building). Tune is traditional army one to same title.
We've got a lot of hammers but we haven't any nails
We've got a lot of mops but we haven't any pails
We've got a lot of towels but we haven't any rails
Oh, oh, oh what a firm!
They sent us two new leaders but we haven't got a base
I had some brand new mukluks but I haven't got a lace
If I could find a flannel, then I could wash my face
Oh, oh, oh what a firm!
I wore them for a week then my trousers were in rags
They sent me nice white bunting to make my marker flags
We haven't any matches, to light our bleedin' fags
Oh, oh, oh what a firm!
We've got a lot of chippies but we haven't any wood
We've got a lot of doggies but we haven't any food
We've got an age old Meadows, but it isn't any good
Oh, oh, oh what a firm!
We came here as exploring men but all we do is "met"
D'you think we like the life we lead, I'd never like to bet
We're waiting for the ship to come, why isn't it here yet?
Oh, oh, oh what a firm!
